Piha Perfection...

One of my favourite spots outside of Auckland was the day we went to Piha Beach.  It was just my parents, J and I so it was good to spend some bonding time just the four of us. We went for a hike along the beach and up into the mountains which resulted in some stunning views of the NZ coast, had lunch at the Piha Cafe, burned our feet on the hot sand at Karekare but still managed to squeeze in a few jump shots, followed by fits of laughter.  We even made it to Mt. Eden which had 360 degree views of the city before heading back to meet up with Christine and Michael for an amazing dinner on the water...wishing I was back there now.

Off to Auckland...

It rained our last day in Te Anau so we lounged around and ate pies - what else do you do when it's raining?  The next day we headed back to Queenstown for some last minute activities before flying out the next morning and landing in Auckland where we'd spend the last few days of our trip.  Luckily it was much warmer in the North Island and we strolled the Viaduct area and enjoyed some fish and chips and took in some of the city sights...

Milford Sound...

Okay the New Zealand photos continue...only a few more posts I promise and by now the only people even looking at these will be my parents.  After Queenstown we took the 2 hour drive to Te Anau which would be our base camp for the next 2 days.  We rented a little house and got to unwind, have a bbq and catch up on the world news which tragically was covering the devastation in Japan.

There was one reason for our stop in Te Anau: Milford Sound.  This was by far the most majestic sight I've ever seen and the sheer scale of how untouched and huge those mountain peaks were is hard to capture in a photograph. The drive alone was stunning but we lucked out by having blue skies for most of our cruise through the sound.  Amazing.

Easy Like Sunday Morning...

It's Sunday morning and I'm sitting in bed, drinking coffee, looking at blogs, listening to Emiliana Torrini and I don't ever want to get out of bed, this moment is too perfect.  J is off surfing and I'm staring at the huge piles of laundry that cover the floor and although my goals is to do some serious spring cleaning later, right now I'm just enjoying the moment, something I rarely do.  I'm ignoring the clock which screams it is far too late to be still sitting in bed, but i don't care, i am going to slow down today and enjoy the small things.

Since getting back from New Zealand we've hit the ground running, I've missed my family like you wouldn't believe and have felt a bit foggy so now it's time to get organised, to simplify and start doing all those little things I've been meaning to do forever that get pushed down the priority list because I'm either too lazy or too tired to think about them.  So I am getting motivated and after a weekend of drinks with work colleagues and running errands I am now setting aside today to read some magazines, test out some new recipes and just enjoy a lazy Sunday.

We will be hosting a real noticeboard at the meetup with space for participants to pin up notes and information to share with others - we see this as a tangible expression of our sense of community. You might like to share info, resources, wanted ads, requests, tips, or anything that you think will be helpful. (no self-promotion on the board please).

More about ABCD Meetups:
ABCD stands for [Artists + Bloggers + Crafters + Designers] and the quarterly meet-ups are an informal way to meet other folks with similar interests in the online space. Rather than being a networking event, these are simply a few quiet drinks with other creative bods; a chance to make a friend or two, and be inspired by what others are doing. All folks attending are given a sticky name badge, a welcoming hello, and a warm, friendly environment. And, if you feel like it, you can add a little creative reminder of you to the ABCD goodie bags that everyone is offered to take home.

Queenstown

I'm back and yes I'm posting more New Zealand photos - sorry but I've got a million trip photos and what else am I supposed to do with them? For those that haven't yet been to Queenstown here's your chance to check out this unreal city where action and adventure can be found around every corner (well, only if you actually like action and adventure and seeing as I'm afraid of most adrenaline seeking activities, I chose to stay safely on the ground).  For those that have visited well you of course will understand how I can't wait to return.

After the long drive from Franz Joseph, we finally arrived in Queenstown and were greeted by the first rain of our trip.  Our spirits would not be dampened and we whipped out our jackets and went to check out the town.  I love this place.  It's right on a lake with stunning mountains all around you, gardens everywhere and lots to see and do without having to travel far.  We only had a few days but managed to find some great local watering holes, visit Glenorchy, scream on the Shotover Jet, visit Arrowtown, bungee into a canyon and attempt to skydive which unfortunately never happened due to the weather.  Here are some pics...

Happy Birthday...

Happy Birthday to my one and only.  I am truly blessed to have you in my life and am grateful to have such an unbelievable partner by my side.  I love you more than I could ever write here in one post and wish you every happiness for the year ahead...

It's been a hectic day over here, starting with a 3am wake up call and flight back to Sydney from New Zealand that involved a scary landing in the pouring rain. It was also the end of our holiday and time to say goodbye to my parents and their friends who were on their way back to Boston. Tears flowed freely, perhaps too freely as one of the airport security guards watched us with a concerned look on her face, I was so emotional at that point I would have gladly hugged her too!  After I composed myself and waved our final goodbyes, J and I headed back to Manly where we are spending his birthday napping away the afternoon, watching the rugby game and ignoring reality for as long as possible.  Happy Birthday bubs...x

On The Road...

As a child we took countless road trips as a family but now that I've grown up the experience is completely different.  It has proved to be an new chance to bond with my parents on the road and an opportunity that I'm grateful to have.  New Zealand is an amazing country to see from the road, as every turn is more amazing than the next.  For hours on end we saw nothing but cows, sheep and ever changing landscapes.  Our rental car had no radio reception or dock for our iPods so we cruised around listening to Neil Young, the one CD we had on hand and it's become our trip anthem.  These pics are a few from our 7hr drive from Franz Joseph to Queenstown with stops along the way.  Of course, no road trip is complete without a few jump shots thrown in for good measure...
