sand dunes & salty air...

The rain continues and today I can't help but dream of summer time in Cape Cod.  Lazy, hazy days at the beach, afternoon naps and the smell of the charcoal BBQ take me back to childhood memories like they were yesterday.  I was lucky enough to spend many a summer day at the Cape, visiting my best friend in Wellfleet and spending time at our house, just sitting around in beach chairs, taking in the day.  Even now that I'm in Sydney, whenever I think of summer, my first visual is that of tall sea grass and the gray salty, weathered shingles of Cape houses.  The lyrics of 'Old Cape Cod' capture it perfectly...

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air,
quaint little villages here and there,
you're sure to fall in love with Old Cape Cod.

If you like the taste of a lobster stew
served by a window with an ocean view,
you're sure to fall in love with Old Cape Cod.

Winding roads that seem to beckon you.

Miles of green beneath the skies of blue.
Church bells chimin' on a sunday morn
remind you of the town where you were born.

If you spend an evening you'll want to stay,

watching the moonlight on Old Cape Cod bay.
You're sure to fall in love with Old Cape Cod.
