real estate wars

Lately, we've been talking about buying a house. Like a real, grown up house.

I suppose by 'talking', I mean that we're having lots of conversations and browsing at houses that are WAY out of our price range. Way, way out. This unfortunate reality comes crashing down rather quickly and the house buying chatter seems to abruptly come to a close and I go back to complaining about the ugly blue carpet in our unit and the ridiculous layout of our kitchen.

So what's a girl to do if she can't buy her dream home just yet? How about spend every weekend window shopping for the dream house she can't yet afford - bingo! For the past 2 weekends I've been a garage sale junkie, on the hunt for my next fix. Rozelle Markets, Megan Morton's Stylist's Garage Sale - no place is safe and don't even get me started on Michell Road Auction house, I've turned that place upside down...it's a gold mine, like stepping into my grandmother's attic, except this time it's filled with pristine Parker furniture.

So if you've wondered why I haven't been blogging, it's because I've been lusting after Parker furniture that I can't afford, for a house I don't yet own.  Ah the joys of Sydney real estate.

We have similar craziness in Vancouver. Unless you live in an inflated market, the prices seem unreal. They are real, alright!

Good luck whenever you take the plunge...

yikes, completely understand how stressful it can be. our apartment we are renting right now is not ideal and i have been dying to move into something more permanent and stylish!

I'm having a garage sale in Newtown soon....hoping to sell lots of my grandparents funky old stuff.....I would love to pick your brain on how best to do it. Basically it is things you would find on King St but I'm thinking not King St prices. Ideas...?

I have been doing the exact same thing... wanting a grown up house of our very own, seems like such a difficult thing these days... The Mitchell Road Auction House looks great, thanks for the tip!

I hear you... it's tough times for the would-be-settler-downer in Australia's capitals... but it sounds like you're attacking the problem exactly as I do!

Hi Jaclyn, Oh I know that feeling. I look forward to the day we come back to Sydney but dread the price of real estate and with 3 kids, I need a decent size house (that's in the inner city area of course). Lucky you to get to Megan Morton's garage sale! Mel (btw & via Anastasia drawing & dreaming)

Great post Jaclyn, you may not be able to invest on your dream house for now, but time will come that you will. And oh! Nice playboy wall paper though :)
