thirteen by 2013

I've never been a fan of New Year's resolutions.

Despite the best of intentions, by April my goals and aspirations become a distant memory and so for the last few years I've rung in each holiday resolution-less and I'm happier for it. I am, however, a list maker through and through so when I read this post from August Empress about making goals before the year started, I was hooked.

Here's a few things I'd like to tick off the list before I say hello to 2013...
  1. Grow out my fringe (or bangs)
  2. Learn to shoot in manual
  3. Try a recipe from my Movida cookbook
  4. Face my fear of public speaking
  5. Run a 10K
  6. Hear one of Jimmy's songs on the radio
  7. Backpack in South America with my partner in crime
  8. Try a yoga trapeze class
  9. Wear red lipstick (or eyeliner if I'm feeling really daring)
  10. Start a new quilt
  11. Skype with my family once a week
  12. Go to the open air cinema and watch 'The Goonies'
  13. Hike in Sydney's Royal National Park

Are you a fan of resolutions? What's on your 'end of the year' to-do list?

p.s - a very happy birthday shout out to my sister, Melanie - here's to another adventurous year!

When we drove past the royal national park on our way home from spring break I was totally thinking we should make a day of it!!! I'm so so keen! I'd also like to make something from your movida cookbook so maybe we could have a cooking day?? Did you know they are opening a movida here in Sydney somewhere?? And in regards to public speaking? Didn't you do that and there was a certain koala involved??? Haha I love your resolutions and would LOVE to help you see them through! Ok I sound somewhere between a crazed fan and a personal trainer so I think that's my que to leave!! Haha have a good day!xxx ps it's abzilla/abdogs/abdiggity here x

I made a 30 While I'm 30 list. I'm only a month in, but it is good to be aware of the things I /should be/need to/dream of/ doing. I've already checked a few off! Good luck with your list. ^^ http://whitbnimble.wordpress.com/2012/10/09/30-while-im-30-october-update/

nice list, maybe i should start one too!

Great to see you were inspired to write your own list :) I definitely think it works better than new years resolutions do, it gives you a good deadline to do things, rather than starting new things you forget during the year.

Grow my fringe was in my 2012 list, by the end of this year I want to have it cut again! I hope I can find a hatha yoga class to join near our new house and I want to start cycling in the rain (or despite the rain)! Good luck with your list, hope you tick off everything on it!

Love this! I'm such a list freak. I make a list every season to try and take full advantage of what's specific to those couple of months. Then there's my New Year's Resolution. It definitely helps keep me on track and excited to accomplish everything on there! Thanks for sharing and good luck- P.S. I love your hair!

These are all attainable and fun goals. I think those are the best goals to write to yourself - ones you look forward to. I too have a goals list, but usually I end up putting more importance on my daily to do list. Funny how things get caught in the weeds. -Yasmin (BYW)

Hi Jaclyn! I love this idea. Maybe a year or two ago, I saw a lot of people whose blogs I read here and there do these "30 before 30" lists (meant for things before they turned a certain age). Well, I'm not a big fan of proclaiming my age on the Internet, although now that I think about it, I'm not a big fan of having my picture taken and now it's all over the Internet thanks to my blog...well anywho...this list idea thing before the New Year(that looks like it comes from Jo at August Empress - what a fantastic site!) is SO GREAT! I'm totally doing it and here's to hoping we all achieve everything on our lists! :-)

Hello Jaclyn,

I love the idea of the "end of the year" list, so you have just 2 months to realize everything...have to take pen and notebook to work on my list, too

Have fun,

Johanna

I say combine a couple of those bad boys -- lipstick, eyeliner and a video blog post! Baby step your way to public speaking. :) Great list, but I must admit I like the fringe.

What a great idea! At work I am pretty good about making goals for the week, month, etc. but pretty much suck at doing so for the rest of my life.

Btw, I love the clean grey & white look of your blog. Very nice.

Hopping over from the byw fb page.
